Busyitis….
Busyitis….what is this?
Busyitis is the need and desire to be busy in order to feel successful, important, or of value.
No, Mr. Webster did not give me this definition and you will not even find this word in his book, BUT “busyitis” should be a real word because it is a REAL ISSUE that many of us struggle with. Let’s look at this fun made up definition one more time…..
THE NEED AND DESIRE TO BE BUSY IN ORDER TO FEEL SUCCESSFUL, IMPORTANT, OR OF VALUE
Ouch! That stings, Nicci! Well, I won’t apologize for my fun new word at all. Besides being a fun word to say, it holds a lot of truth.
We have all suffered from busyitis at some point and time. Society has told us that being busy is what makes us successful. The busier we are, the more important we must be. The more chaotic and busy our life is, the more accomplished we appear.
I believed this lie at one point and suffered the consequences of it. I did not know how to use the word “no” and looked for things to add to my list and calendar. My health quickly declined and my family missed out on some great quality time because I was just “too busy” saving the world so that I felt successful and important. Yes, I truly wanted to save the world, but was going about it the wrong way.
My beautiful grey hairs have brought so much wisdom. Here are a few nuggets and eye-openers I have gained over the years and through overcoming busyitis myself……
*Many are busy, but will never really accomplish anything.
*Many will add to their schedules, but will never add to another’s life.
*Many will intentionally grow their to do list, but never spend time growing another person.
*Many will mark up their calendar, but sadly never leave a mark on the world.
Don’t chase events, appointments, and busy schedules. Chase God’s heart with a willingness to serve and let Him use your time for His glory. Don’t get caught up in the busy life that you miss God’s plan and your purpose. Don’t be busy….be purposeful and intentional.
